Trailing 12-0 at halftime and 19-0 halfway through the third quarter, the Nixa Eagles continued to battle against the Carthage Tigers Sept. 30. Unfortunately, the comeback attempt came up just short and the Eagles fell to the Tigers 25-7.
Carthage (6-1) took an early lead in the first quarter on a 68-yard touchdown pass from Keith Guest II to wide receiver Arkell Smith. Guest and Smith would connect for touchdowns twice more during the game.
"He (Guest) played really well. This is the third year that we have seen him and he is just really good," Nixa coach Rich Rehagen said. "They did a really good job, have to give them credit….they did some good stuff tonight."
The Eagles struggled to get the offense going in the first half. On three separate occasions, Nixa had the ball in Carthage territory, but it either punted or turned the ball over on downs. The lackluster play on offense led to a quarterback change in the second half.
