2019 Blue and Gold and Pink and White recap; Eagles win third, Lady Eagles place sixth

The Nixa Lady Eagles opened up the 2019 Pink and White Lady Classic in the Pink Division against Hillcrest on Thursday, Dec. 26 in Weiser Gym at Drury University.

The Lady Eagles cruised to an over 30-point victory over the Lady Hornets while allowing under 20-points on defense en route to a 71-18 victory. 

Four Lady Eagles scored in double figures. Ali Kamies and Rhianna Gibbons scored 12-points and Adelyn Weaver and Gabby Nielsen added ten apiece.

With the win, the Nixa advance to the quarterfinals to face Christian County foe Clever.

In the quarterfinals, Nixa was tested until expiration and could not complete the comeback against Clever, fall 45-43 to the Lady Jays.

With the loss, Nixa drops to 4-4 and to the fifth place semifinal game against Central Conference Ozark rival and No. 7 seeded Willard, who knocked them in the semifinals a year ago.

The game will be played on Saturday, Dec. 28 at 1 p.m. in the O'Reilly Family Event Center at Drury University.

On day three, the Lady Eagles faced Willard in the fifth-place semifinal matchup, avenging a loss handed them to a year ago. Nixa dominated the game from start to finishing, cruising to a victory over the Lady Tigers 67-38. 

The win improved the Lady Eagles to 5-4 on the year and advanced them to the fifth-place game to face the Lady Bulldogs of Blue Eye on Dec. 30, where they were defeated 47-39, dropping to 5-5.

Nixa finished the Pink and White tournament 2-2 and won sixth =-place in the Pink Division.

The Nixa Eagles kicked off the 2019 Blue and Gold Tournament on Thursday, Dec. 26 in the Blue Division in dominating fashion, routing Willow Springs 63-31.

Kaleb Wofford led the Eagles in scoring with 12-points on all three pointers. Collin Ruffin added eleven-points off the bench. 

The win advanced the Eagles to quarterfinals to face undefeated and State ranked Crane on Friday, Dec. 27 in the JQH Arena.

In the quarterfinals, Nixa jumped out to a first half lead, but a lack luster effort on by the Eagles in the third quarter let the lead slip away.

Nixa came storming back all fourth quarter and finally regained the lead late in the quarter, due in large part by Kaleb Wofford's back-to-back threes. 

Nixa came out victorious 46-45 and handed Crane their first loss of the season.

With the win, Nixa ups its record to 7-2 advances to the Blue Division semifinals on Saturday, Dec. 28 at 5:30 p.m. in the JQH Arena against No. 6 seeded Logan-Rogersville. The Eagles will seek to avenge a quarterfinal loss a year ago in the same tournament to the Wildcats.

Day three was a heartbreaker for the Eagles as they could not hit crucial free-throws in the late minutes and fell at the buzzer to Rogersville 43-42. Nixa was leading 42-41 with 0.6 still showing on the clock and Rogersville's Cade Blevins received an in-bounds pass from under the Wildcats' basket, and while still in the air, rolled in a game-winning bucket.

Kaleb Wofford led the Eagles in scoring with 13-points.

The loss dropped Nixa to 7-3 on the year and placed them in the third-place game against COC rival and No. 1 seed Willard.

In the third place game, the Eagles came out firing offensively on all cylinders, as did Willard. Both teams exchanged buckets back-and-forth in the first quarter, resulting in a 13-13 tie at the end.

Nixa upped it's defensive in the second quarter while the offense was still red hot. Nixa jumped out to a double digit lead at the half 36-23. 

That quarter set the stepping stone for the rest of the game. The Eagles came out of half red hot again on both sides, holding Willard to only seven-points in the third. Nixa led by 20 at the end of the quarter 50-30.

The hot Nixa offense continued throughout the fourth quarter, resulting in a 67-39 victory while shutting down Willard's superstar Daniel Abreu, who total over 100-points in the tournament last year. 

Josh Mason led all scorers in the game with 21-points.

Nixa finished the Blue and Gold tournament at 3-1 and won third-place in the Blue Division while upping it's record to 8-3 on the year.
