10/3/2023 10:00:00 AM

The fourth-ranked team in Class 6, Nixa Eagles, hosted the Carl Junction Bulldogs on Sept. 29, seeking to keep its undefeated season alive in week six action.

Nixa entered the contest 5-0, while the Bulldogs came in with just one win.

In a game that was all Nixa from start to finish, the Eagles dominated on both sides and shut out the visitors 47-0.

Offensively, Nixa totaled 503 yards (283 passing and 229 rushing) and played turnover-free football.

Defensively, the Eagles held Carl Junction below 200 yards (198) and forced three turnovers, one of which was an interception by McCoy Sullivan, who returned it for a touchdown for the game's final score.

Game Scoring Plays:

Set up by a few connections from QB Nate Uber to WR Rylan Michel earlier in the drive, RB Dylan Rebura scored the game's opening touchdown with a fourth-down 1-yard run up the middle, giving the Eagles an early 7-0 lead with 1:09 remaining in the opening quarter. View the TD here.

End of the first quarter score: Nixa 7, Carl Junction 0.

RB Malachai Rider gave the Eagles a 14-0 lead with six minutes left in the half with a short 1-yard TD run. View the TD here.

The Eagles defense came up big on Carl Junction's next drive. Spencer Ward forced a Bulldogs fumble for its first turnover of the game with under a minute remaining in the first half. On the next play on offense, WR Wyatt Vincent took the jet sweep 75 yards to the end zone, extending Nixa's lead to three scores heading into the intermission. View the TD here.

Halftime score: Nixa 21, Carl Junction 0.

Another big connection from Uber to Michel set up Nixa's next score not even two minutes into the second half. With the ball around the 40-yard line, Michel received the pass on a go-route and carried it inside the five. Then, Rebura rumbled his way into the end zone for an easy 4-yard TD, extending the Eagles lead to 28-0 with 10:15 left in the third. View the TD here.

Uber threw his second TD midway through the third quarter when he found a wide-open TE Lane Meltabarger on a seam route for the 24-yard score. The extra-point attempt was no good, but the Eagles still led comfortably 34-0. View the TD here.

Nixa marched downfield again on its next drive and set up another easy score for Rebura. Rebura found the gaps in the middle behind his big lineman and punched in a 6-yard score for his game-high third TD with 2:43 remaining in the third. The extra-point attempt was no good.  View the TD here.

Two minutes later, deep in the Bulldogs territory, the Eagles defense came up with the score. DB McCoy Sullivan read the Carl Junction QB perfectly, jumped in front of the WR, intercepted the ball, and returned it with a clear field ahead for the game's final TD. Eagles led 47-0 with 53.8 seconds left in the third.

End of the third quarter score: Nixa 47, Carl Junction 0.

With the turbo clock enacted, the fourth quarter provided little action. The quarter's highlight was a forced fumble by DB Randy Flint, which LB Todd Egan recovered with four minutes remaining to seal the shutout.

Final score: Nixa 47, Carl Junction 0.

The win keeps Nixa's undefeated season alive (6-0) and is the Eagles third-straight victory over the Bulldogs. Nixa hosts Willard (3-3), who fell to Webb City 43-16 in its week six contest, on Thursday, Oct. 5. The Eagles hold an 11-3 all-time record vs. the Tigers, dating back to 2010. The last three matchups have witnessed the Eagles triumph by over five TDs.
