Volleyball finishes 2024 regular season with 30 wins

10/24/2024 11:16:00 AM

The Nixa girls' volleyball team swept Neosho to conclude their regular season, finishing with an impressive record of 30-3. This marks the first time in four years that the Eagles volleyball team has finished the regular season with 30 or more wins. The last time the Eagles achieved this, Nixa found itself holding the Class 4 state championship trophy.

The 30-win regular season did not come easy for the Eagles, as they faced off against top talent around the area. Nixa kicked off the season by hitting the road, heading to Fayetteville, Ark., to take on the four-time defending 6A state champions. After dropping the first set 25-17, Nixa prevailed and won three straight sets (25-21, 32-30, 25-12) and defeated the Bulldogs 3-1.

Following that matchup, Nixa faced its first COC opponent, sweeping the Webb City Cardinals (25-10, 25-12, 25-21). The Eagles' fire through two games would quickly be halted, as they dropped their first game of the season against the Jefferson City Jays, a team that was coming off a third-place finish in Class 4 last year.

After the defeat, Nixa would get four consecutive wins (Helias Catholic, Republic, Willard, and Jackson) until they fell to the Marquette Mustangs in the Rockwood Classic Tournament 2-1 for only their second defeat.

Nixa would then hit a big win streak and prevailed in 23 straight games, improving to 29-2. In that 23-game stint, Nixa added impressive wins over teams like Cor Jesu, Lee's Summit, Kickapoo, Rock Bridge, and finished undefeated in the Ozark Grand Slam Tournament with victories over Greenwood, Ark., Lutheran, Springfield Catholic, Liberty, and Logan-Rogersville. Senior Chloe Judd was named to the Ozark All-Tournament Team, finishing with a hitting percentage of .493, 45 kills, and 8 blocks.

Nixa's win streak eventually ended at the hands of its rival Ozark Tigers 3-0. The Eagles responded back two days later in its regular-season finale by knocking off Neosho to give themselves a momentum push into the playoffs, where Nixa is the No. 2 seed in the Class 5 District 6 tournament and faces No. 7 Willard.
