Athlete of the Week: Addison Harkins

1/14/2025 1:55:00 PM

The first Guaranty Bank Athlete of the Week for the 2025 year is junior wrestler Addison Harkins, who has had a phenomenal start to her junior year campaign, including surpassing career win No. 100.

The two-time state runner-up recently showcased her incredible talent and determination by winning the prestigious Columbia Wonder Woman Wrestling Tournament (Jan. 4) and Lafayette 'Fred Ross' Invitational Tournament (Jan. 11).

The Wonder Woman is widely regarded as one of the nation's toughest in-season women's high school wrestling tournaments, drawing elite competitors from across the country. Her road to victory was nothing short of remarkable. She pinned her first five opponents and capped off her championship run with an impressive win over a defending state champion in the finals by decision 12-6, solidifying her place among the top wrestlers in the country.

A week later, Harkins continued her dominance by winning the Lafayette 'Fred Ross' Invitational, finishing 4-0 with all wins by fall. The championship marks her fourth on the year as Harkins finished atop her division at the Festus Scramble and Nixa Invitational, where she achieved career win No. 100. She also had a top-five outing at the Kansas City Stampede.

Harkins currently holds a record of 25-2 entering Nixa's dual vs. Ozark on Jan. 14. She has played a significant role in helping the Eagles obtain a team national ranking.

"Addison's dedication, hard work, and competitive spirit exemplify the values of Nixa Athletics. Her historic achievement at the Wonder Woman Wrestling Tournament is not only a testament to her talent but also an inspiration to her teammates, coaches, and the Nixa community. Addison becomes only the third Nixa wrestler to win a Wonder Woman title, joining the ranks of Brenya Crahan and Kelsey Watts. Her performance helped her team increase their national ranking to No. 13 in the country. Addison is also an outstanding student who excels in the classroom with a 4.0 GPA and can always be counted on to do the right thing on and off the mat. She has embraced her role as a leader on the wrestling team, leading both by example and vocally. She is a great leader for our team and a large reason we have had success within the program," said head coach Dustin Martin.
