Cross country final roundup, season recap

The Nixa cross country team concluded the regular season with four meets, prior to the Class 5 District 2 meet. 

The team kicked off the year at the Southwest Cross Country Coaches Association (SWCCCA) Invitational at Bolivar Municipal Golf Course. The boys placed fourth overall against 54 other teams and 502 runners, led by top-50 times from Reyes Martinez and Alex Flannery. The girls finished ninth against 35 teams and 341 runners, led by Emma Hurst's and Mackzine Harris' top-50 performances.

The boys and girls team triumphed over the entire field at its own Nixa Riann Lubinski Invitational. The boys ousted a field of 12 teams, totaling five runners in the top-10, with Reyes Martinez taking home the gold against 98 other runners. The girls defeated eight teams, with three runners finishing in the top 10, including Emma Hurst, who placed first overall against 77 other runners.

Following the Nixa Invite, the Branson Cedar Ridge 5K Invitational was next. The boys placed third, while the girls finished fifth. Against six other schools and a field of 63 runners, Zane Novingers, Evan Brett, and Gage Holmes ran to top-10 finishes. On the girls side, six schools and 51 total runners comprised the field. Raeelee Hewitt (10th) and Mackinzie Harris (11th) were the team's top performers, followed by two other runners in the top-25.

Next up for the Eagles was the COC East Championships held on Nixa's home course against six other conference foes. The girls finished as the conference runners-up, while the boys placed fourth overall. Reyes Martinez (2nd) and Alex Flannery (6th) were the boys side top finishes in a field of 151 total runners. Emma Hurst (7th) and Brianna Bidinger (9th) ran their way to a top-10 performance and finished as the team's best placers in a field of 106 total runners.

In Nixa's final meet of the regular season, the Eagles were victorious as a team at the Reeds Spring Matt Locke Invitational. On the boys side, Nixa and Reeds Spring were the only two teams that were eligible for team points, and the Eagles scored 23 points to best the host by 13 in the standings. 27 runners fielded the race, and Evan Brett and Oliver Lazno were the squad's top performers, finishing second and third, respectively. For the girls, they were the sole team capable of scoring team points. Nixa finished with all of its runners in the top six, which comprised a total of 11 runners. Raelee Hewitt, Anna Wiese, Megan Brumley, Zoiee Ward, Hope Angell, and Callie Walker finished right behind one another.

Nixa kicked off the postseason on its home course by qualifying both the girls and boys team for the Class 5 state championships. District 2 fielded 16 teams. The girls placed third and boys placed fourth overall, earning their state qualifications. Brianna Bidinger (17th), Emma Hurst (19th), Meliah Copley (23rd), and Mackinzie Harris (24th) all finished in top 25 to lead the girls team. Reyes Martinez (6th), Alex Flannery (8th), Gage Holmes (21st), and Zane Novinger (23rd) were the boys runners placing in the top 25.

The boys and girls teams concluded their 2025 campaign by competing and representing Nixa at the Class 5 State Championships on Nov. 7 in Columbia, Mo., at the Gans Creek Cross Country Course. Reyes Martinez was the lone medalist on both the boys and girls sides, placing 13th at 15:47.55 and helping lead the boys team to a ninth-place finish out of 16 teams. The girls placed 15th overall with Brianna Bidinger leading the girls pack and finishing in 42nd.
