The Nixa Eagles competed for the Class 6 state title for a second consecutive year on Dec. 6 at Missouri Western University, battling with the Lee's Summit Tigers.

Nixa's bid for a title fell inches short, as the Eagles were stopped on 4th and 1 late in the ballgame.

In an offensive shootout, which saw teams exchange blows for blows, and a game featuring stars on both sides, Lee's Summit defeated Nixa 41-37.

Lee's Summit led 14-7 after the first quarter. Nixa owned the second and carried a 28-21 lead into the intermission. The Tigers outscored the Eagles 20-9 in the second half, keeping Nixa out of the endzone in the fourth quarter to win.

QB Adam McKnight connected 11 of his 14 passes for 183 yards and four touchdowns. McKnight also carried the ball 17 times for 75 yards and a score. WR Randy Flint hauled in eight catches for 114 yards and a pair of TDs. Owen Lock and Eli Deal also caught two TDs.
