Bass Fishing Safety Rules/Guidelines

Missouri United School Insurance Council (MUSIC) Bass Fishing Safety Rules/Guidelines Participant Rules
  1. All participants must be supervised by a team captain.
  2. All participants must wear a coast guard approved Personal Fllotation Device (PFD). The PFD must be worn at all times when in close proximity to the water. The PFD must be zipped and secured at all times.
  3. All participants including the team captain must wear eye protection which meets the ansi z87 standard.
  4. Only the boat captain may operate the vessel.
  5. All participants should be seated in the boat while the boat is arriving/returning from the fishing destination.
  6. No fishing alone. You must fish with a buddy.
  7. No ice fishing is allowed.
  8. No night time fishing is allowed.

Boat Captain Rules
  1. The boat captain must be over the age of 21.
  2. The boat captain must have a valid fishing license.
  3. The boat captain must provide proof of current liability insurance. (see insurance requirements)
  4. The boat captain must have all required state, license, certifications and trainings.
  5. The boat must have all state/coast guard required safety equipment.
  6. The boat captain must not exceed the posted occupancy for the vessel.
  7. The boat captain or co-captain must be certified in both First Aid and CPR.
  8. The boat captain must be trainee in any special medical conditions of participants.
  9. The captain and co-captain must complete the “Smarter Adults Safer Children” training.
  10. The boat captain must carry a fully charged cell phone or other reliable form communication for emergencies.
  11. The boat captain must wear a PFD.
  12. The boat captain must wear proper eye protection.
  13. The “kill switch” must be attached.
  14. The captain must observe all posted speed limit restrictions. If no restrictions are in place, the maximum speed will be 50 MPH.
  15. Boat captains must have the ability to monitor weather conditions.
  16. The boat captain must complete a documented boat safety inspection prior to launching the boat.

Eligible Students
  1. Only students in the grade level of 9-12 should participate.
  2. All participants must obtain a valid fishing license and be knowledge of fishing regulations.
  3. All participants must pass the MSHSAA physical.
  4. All participants must have parents/guardians sign a liability waiver.
  5. All participants must have proof of health insurance.
  6. All participants must comply with the district’s policy for athletics and extracurricular activities.
  7. All participants/guardians must sign acknowledgment of receipt of safety rules/guidelines.
