Nixa Bass Fishing Team Overview
The Nixa Schools Bass Fishing Team is an amateur program designed to introduce students to the sportĀ of competitive bass fishing. Students participating in this club should understand our goal is to developĀ a team of student competitors who will represent Nixa High School in the National Youth FishingĀ Association Tournament Series. Team members will develop their knowledge and skills through a seriesĀ of training meetings, guest appearances by local and national fishing pros and practice outings to area lakes. Students in grades 7-12 who meet specific team membership requirements are eligible forĀ
membership. All two person teams are required to recruit/provide a single Volunteer Boat CaptainĀ
committed to their team for all tournament dates and practices. Due to passage of the Safe SportsĀ Act of 2017, no student will be able to fish without a partner.Ā In addition, all students will:
- Have a desire to compete at a high level and be committed to the team.
- Attend club meetings, activities and events.Ā
- Practice skills at all training meetings and practice trips.
- Reinforce learned skills on your own time.
- Be a team player and be respectful of your Volunteer Boater, and his boat vehicle and equipment.
- Own, or purchase, your own rods, reels, tackle, foul weather gear, etc.
- Purchase a team jersey that can be worn at school sanctioned events (approximately $50-75).
- Abide by all policies outlined in the NHS Student Handbook and follow all guidelines. This includesĀ random drug testing. Failure to do so will result in immediate removal from this club/team.
- Attend a meeting with our Activities Director covering our Citizenship Policy and MSHSAA guidelines.Ā A parent must also attend this meeting.
- Uphold all MSHSAA bylaws and submit medical information and parent permission.
Club Meetings:
- The NHS Bass Fishing Team will meet once, or twice a month. Times and meeting areas are subjectĀ to availability with Nixa High School.
- Meetings will include guest Pro speakers teaching on various fishing topics including lake navigationĀ map reading, underwater structure, fish migration patterns, rod, reel and bait selection, castingĀ techniques, seasonal strategies, tournament rules and etiquette and electronics.
- Attendance is mandatory at all meetings. Absences for other school functions may be excused. InĀ addition to skills and experience, school attendance and grades may also be a consideration whenĀ selecting students to compete in tournaments
- All upcoming event planning and travel plans will be discussed at these meetings.
Fees:
- We are a club, so we function without district financial resources.
- All fees for this club are the responsibility of the club and its members.
- Dues include an annual fee of $50 per year. Club dues will be used forĀ team equipment, lodging for overnite trips and to offset fuel expenses of Volunteer Boat Captains.Ā These dues are subject to change in the future, as needed, to insure club solvency.
- All members are responsible for the purchase of their own team jersey voted on by the club.Ā Individual sponsor logos can be added to these jerseys. These jerseys can be worn at all open eventsĀ until MSHSAA takes complete control of upcoming events. At that time jerseys with only the school logoĀ will be allowed under the policies outlined by MSHSAA.
- We may organize fundraising efforts, depending on the financial needs, however, all fundraisers mustĀ be approved by the Athletic Director. Fundraisers are mandatory for all team members. Failure toĀ participate in team fundraisers will result in removal from the team.
