Jay Osborne

Jay Osborne is in his 25th season as the Head Coach of the Nixa Eagles Basketball Program.  This is his 30th overall and 28th as a head coach.  His teams have played in 9 State Tournaments, three final fours, and have won 40 Tournament Titles, including 10 District Championships, 7 Blue and Gold Championships, and 11 NIT Championships.  He has an overall career record of 542 – 205.

In April of 2015, Osborne was inducted into the Missouri Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame.

Osborne has averaged nearly 20 wins per year as the Nixa Coach since taking over in 1992, making him Nixa’s all time career coaching leader.  His 1999 Nixa Eagles won the 3A State Championship.  The 2002 team placed 3rd in another trip to the Final Four.  In 2012, the Eagles finished runner-up in Class 5 and is possibly the best Nixa Team to ever take the court.  Last season his Eagles were 28-2 and lost in the final seconds in the state quarterfinals to eventual State Champion Blue Springs South.

Osbornes teams have won an unprecedented 5 consecutive Blue and Gold Championships, having not lost a game since the 2009 finals.  He is currently second in total Blue and Gold coaching victories (62-20) in the 71 year history of the tournament.

His Eagle teams have won sportsmanship awards from the MSHSAA for their 1999 and 2002 Final Four appearances.  His teams are also a four time winner of the Blue and Gold Tournaments Speedy Collins sportsmanship award, and won the Southwest Missouri Officials Association award in 2002.  Osborne has twice been awarded the MBCA Coach of the year in 2012 and 1999.

Prior to his arrival in Nixa, Osborne compiled a 51-7 record in two seasons at Pleasant Hope, including a Blue and Gold Championship and a 1992 State Quarterfinal appearance.  His first Head Coaching position was at Solomon, Kansas in 1989-90, guiding that team to its first winning season in over ten years, and a conference championship.  He began his coaching career as an assistant for two seasons under Hall of Fame coach Brent Colley in Willow Springs, Missouri.

Osborne is a 1987 graduate of Fort Hays State University, Hays, Kansas, and also holds a degree from Hutchinson Community College, Hutchinson, Kansas.  He received his Masters degree in Educational Administration from Lindenwood University, St. Charles, Missouri.  Osborne played 4 seasons of College Football as a wide receiver for Butler County, Hutchinson, and Fort Hays State.

A native of Nickerson, Kansas, he was a 4 sport athlete.  He played basketball for his father Duane Osborne, their 1981 team finished 3rd in the Kansas 4A State Tournament.  Osborne was an All-State Football player, and a two time Mid-State Activities Association all conference selection in both basketball and football.

Osborne resides in Nixa with his wife Kim.  They have three children – Colbie, Chandler, and Dalton.
