Jordan Hall's mission changed, but his cool did not.
The Nixa senior strode to the plate in the bottom of the eighth needing to bunt a runner to second, but — after a balk put that runner on third — he was suddenly responsible for bringing home the winning run. He got the job done as the Eagles walked off against Neosho, 2-1 in extra innings.
"I was pretty calm, honestly. I was just trying to get something into the outfield and in the air," Hall said. "I was just trying to hit something hard."
It was a big hit in a big spot from Hall, who entered the game as a pinch hitter. He lofted a fly ball to center field and, when the retreating outfielder fell down, Brett Hammit easily trotted home from third to give Nixa the win.
"He'd been starting for us most of the year," Nixa coach Jason Daugherty said. "When I put him in the game today, he got the job done. That ball was hit hard. The guy fell down, but it might've been a double anyway. It was at least going to be a sac fly."
