Hunter Crabtree's fifth-inning double was just the first domino to fall in a three-run rally that sent the Nixa Eagles on to a 4-1 upset of state-ranked Willard May 10 in the regular season finale.
Nixa has now won four in a row and 13 of its last 14 games. The win clinches a share of the Central Ozark Conference title for the Eagles.
The Eagles came to bat in the home half of the fifth inning trailin 1-0 after the Tigers broke a scoreless tie in the top of the inning. Steven Belcher followed Crabtree's hit with a ground-rule double to tie the game at one and Joe Reid followed with a double to the wall in left field to plate Belcher and give Nixa a 2-1 lead.
Devon Roach checked in to pinch run for Reid and later scored on a wild pitch to push Nixa's edge to 3-1.
Brett Hammit punctuated the win with a lead-off home run in the sixth inning, a blast that easily cleared the fence in left.
Nixa's pitching staff, just like the batting order, benefitted from several strong outings. Starter Jake Uber was untouchable until the fourth inning, when Willard — ranked No. 7 in Class 5 — loaded the bases with two out. Kyle Ramey came on to escape the game, striking Cole Biellier out looking to squash the threat.
