Lady Eagles, Farrar runners-up in the COC, Farrar state tournament bound

The Nixa Lady Eagles golf team closed out their 2021 regular season by competing in the Central Ozark Conference (COC) and Class 4 District 3 tournaments.

Nixa was on the links at Schifferdecker Golf Course on Oct. 4 for the COC tournament.

The Lady Eagles had three of their five golfers place in the top-20, propelling Nixa to a runner-up finish.

As a team, Nixa finished +124 on the day for second place and was eight strokes behind COC champion Willard. Nixa edged third-place Joplin by two strokes.

Mia Farrar was Nixa's top performer and extended her top-ten individual medalist streak to six. Farrar shot 14 above par for a team-best 85 which was also the second-best individual score, two strokes behind COC individual champion, Carthage's Hailey Bryant.

Karsen Tunell (106) and Kailey Tate (107) rounded out Nixa's top-20 individual placements. Tunell's 106 tied her for 16th and Tate's 107 placed her 18th.

Abby Light shot 110 for 24th and Macy Pierce shot 113 which tied her for 26th.

The Nixa golfers returned to the greens a week later on Oct. 11 at the Fred Arbanas Golf Course in Kansas City, Mo. for the Class 4 District 3 tournament.

Nixa competed in the district against Central (Springfield), Joplin, Kickapoo, Lee's Summit, Lee's Summit North (tournament host), Lee's Summit West, Notre Dame de Sion, Ozark, Raymore-Peculiar, Raytown and St. Teresa's Academy.

St. Teresa's Academy crowned the district championship with a score of 369. Nixa came in at seventh with a team score of 418.

Mia Farrar capped off her impressive sophomore campaign with a qualification for the Class 4 State tournament Oct. 18-19 and completed her perfect medalist performance. Ray-Pec's Sarah Larkins finished at 78 and won the individual district championship.

Farrar placed fourth at 13 strokes above par for a score of 85. Nixa competed in seven tournaments, including districts, and Farrar's fourth-place performance marked a perfect seven-for-seven top-ten medalist finish on the season.

Per MSHSAA guidelines, the district's top-two teams and top-18 individuals advance to the state tournament.

Farrar's fourth-place performance awarded her a second consecutive trip back to the state tournament. A year ago Farrar placed sixth in the district at 86 and went on to finish 27th at state where she shot 89. 72 marks Farrar's 2021 season best so she is intact to improve upon that state finish.

Macy Pierce shot 108 for 30th, Karsen Tunell shot 110 and tied for 32nd, Hannah Ellerman shot 115 and tied for 37th and Kailey Tate rounded out Nixa's district competitors, shooting 129 for 40th.

Full district tournament results can be found here.

Farrar hits the links again on Oct. 18-19 competing in the Class 4 state tournament right down the road from her hometown, Rivercut Golf Course.
