Fugitt becomes Nixa’s first ever Ironman medalist, 3 Eagles win a match

CUYAHOGA FALLS, Ohio - Three Nixa Eagle wrestlers took the trip to Ohio for the Walsh-Jesuit Ironman Tournament on December 10-11. The tournament holds national acclaim, hosting many of the best teams and wrestlers from around the country.

Zan Fugitt at 120, Peyton Moore at 126, Brennan Carey at 190, and John Gholson at 215 were the Eagles who participated. 

Zan Fugitt came into the tournament ranked No. 5 in the nation and advanced to the semifinals where he lost to eventual runner up Benjamin Davino 5-3. 

Fugitt's road to the semifinals was tough, as he had to go through two of the top wrestlers in the country at his weight. He beat Judson Jarrett by fall in 1:37, Austin McBurney by decision 5-2, and Jack Consiglio by decision 5-2 before losing to Davino. 

In the consolation semifinal, Fugitt beat Peyton Fenton by decision 8-2 and beat Dillon Campbell in the 3rd place match by decision 3-0. Fugitt finished the tournament with a 5-1 record.

Fugitt became the first wrestler in Nixa history to medal in the tournament.

Moore and Carey lost in their second-round match, while Gholson advanced to the third round but was beaten 16-4 by the eventual runner up. 

Moore went 2-2, reaching the 4th round of consolation.

Carey went 1-2, reaching the 3rd round of consolation.

Gholson went 2-2, reaching the 5th round of consolation.
