Nixa baseball took to diamond at Central Park against Ozark in the Class 6 District 6 quarterfinal on Monday.
In a game that lasted over four hours which endured two lightning delays, Nixa fell to Ozark 6-1, despite out hitting the Tigers four to two.Â
Sam Russo received the start for Nixa and went four innings, allowing two hits and five runs while striking out two and walking one. The five runs were unearned.
Ozark got on the board first in the top of the third with two runs and Nixa responded back with a run of their own.
Three more runs came across for Ozark in the top of the fourth and then in Nixa's half of the fourth came the first lightning delay, as Ozark led 5-1.
The Eagles were held scoreless when action resumed. Ozark plated the game's final run in the top of the fifth, extending the Tigers lead to 6-1, and then another lightning strike put the game on halt.Â
Nixa walked six times in the game which allowed for their lone run in the game. Jaret Nelson pounded out two hits in the game and Ryan Retone scored Nixa's lone run while adding a hit as well.
Pinch-hitter Jack Edwards was the Eagles final hit in the game.
Nixa finishes the year 18-8.
