Five Eagles place first in Lafayette Invitational

WILDWOOD, Missouri - Nixa travelled to St. Louis, Mo. for the Lafayette Invitational where the boys placed seventh and the girls placed second.

For the boys, Zan Fugitt at 120 and Aidan Ward at 132 got first in their respective classes. John Gholson at 220 came in second.

Zan Fugitt outscored his opponents 35-2 in his four matches en route to his first-place finish. Fugitt beat the No. 2 seed 5-1 in the championship bout. Fugitt won 16-1, 12-2, 2-0, and 5-1.

Aidan Ward won his first match 10-2, his second match in the semifinals 8-6, and won by medical forfeit in the first-place bout.

Gholson, the No. 2 seed in the 220 bracket, won his first three matches before falling 8-3 to the No. 1 seed.

The girls had three first-place finishes with Ashlyn Eli at 100, Brenya Crahan at 125, and Calyese Dupree at 159.

Ashlyn Eli and Brenya Crahan came into the invitational with the No. 1 seed in their respective bracket. Calyese Dupree was the No. 2 seed.

Eli had a dominant tournament, winning 6-2, 21-6, 9-5, and then 9-1 in the championship bout.

Brenya Crahan at 125 placed first by winning 14-5, 2-0, and 2-0.

Calyese Dupree put together a phenomenal performance in the Lafayette Invitational. Dupree shut out all four of her opponents to place first in the 159 bracket.
