Boys place 3rd in COC wrestling tournament

NEOSHO, Missouri - After nearly ten hours of non-stop wrestling, the Nixa boys wrestling team finished third in the 2022 COC Tournament. 

Nixa had a great showing, displaying how the young team can compete with some of the best teams in the state.

Zan Fugitt at 120, Peyton Moore at 126, and Brennan Carey at 195 won the individual title in their weight classes.

The team's next-best finish came from Charles Speake at 220 and Aidan Ward, who won the bronze. 

Logan Flemming at 106 and Garrett Davidson at 285 placed fourth, Brayden Villareal at 113 and Cole Crahan at 170 placed fifth, Nate Brower at 145 and Ty Hartman at 185 placed sixth, and Porter Osborne at 152 & Logan Elmer at 160 placed.

Fugitt was dominant once again, defeating all five of his opponents by fall, improving his record to 37-1 on the season. Fugitt's only loss came in the 2021 Walsh Ironman semifinals to Ben Davino, one of the best in the country at 120.

Moore, committed to Missouri, defeated his first opponent by technical fall 17-1. He went on to pin his next three opponents to secure a COC title.

Brennan Carey defeated Branson's Cade Grimm (30-6) in the 195 championship match by decision 9-3.

Carey won by fall in his first match, major decision 10-1 in his second, and by fall in the semis over Willard's Brady Griffin (33-7).

Nixa scored 149.5 points as a team.

First place went to Ozark (178.5) and the runner-up was Carl Junction (155.5).
