9/15/2023 11:20:00 AM

Nixa softball hosted its cross-town rival Ozark in a COC matchup on Sept. 12 and avenged its two defeats to the Tigers a year ago with a 7-1 victory.

Ozark homered in the first inning for its only run. Nixa tied the game in the bottom of the third on a sacrifice fly from Rylee Harper, scoring Natalia Pharris, who reached on an Ozark error. In the fourth, Nixa took its first lead of the game when Rylee Harper drove in Mylee Harper and Pharris on a line-drive single to center, giving the Eagles a 3-1 lead. The next at-bat Sara Sweaney gave Nixa a four-run cushion on a 2-run homer run over the right field fence, extending Nixa's lead to 5-1. Two errors by Ozark in the sixth allowed for Nixa's final runs in the game.

Bri Chilton tossed a complete game effort in the circle, allowing one run with strikeouts. Chilton moved to 5-1 on the year.

The win advances Nixa to 8-3, 2-1 COC on the year.

Two days later the Eagles hosted the Webb City Cardinals in another COC clash. The Cardinals entered the game 10-4, 1-2 COC, and Nixa entered 8-3, 2-1 COC. In a pitchers and low-scoring duel, Nixa's seven-game winning streak was halted as the Eagles fell to the visitors 3-1.

Nixa tallied five hits in the game to Webb City's eight. Hits came from Paige Garetson, Rylee Harper, Sara Sweaney, Bailey Shockley, and Mylee Harper.

The Eagles took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second on a Mylee Harper RBI single to center, scoring Jayln Mabe. Webb City scored a run a piece in innings four through six for its three in the game.

Despite being on the opposite end, starting pitcher Paige Garetson (3-3) threw a strong outing on the mound in a complete-game performance with five strikeouts.

Nixa seeks to rebound in the win column on Sept. 18 for a home non-conference matchup vs. McDonald County.
