Volleyball sweeps Rogersville for 12th win

9/15/2023 3:46:00 PM

Nixa volleyball traveled to Logan-Rogersville on Sept. 14 for a non-conference matchup vs. the Wildcats and won its 12th game of the year by sweeping the host 25-20, 25-18, 26-24.

In set one, Nixa led early, 10-4, and carried at least a five-point advantage for most of the set. The Eagles went up by as much as nine, 17-8, midway through the set, and middle hitter Ava Owens scored the 25th point with a kill coming off an assist from Jacy Bray.

Owens went on to tally nine kills in the game, and Bray finished with 31 assists and 15 digs.

The Wildcats had Nixa's number early in set two and led 10-6. Rogersville extended it to 12-7 and forced an Eagles timeout. Out of the break, Nixa adjusted its game plan, went on a 7-2 run to tie the game, and scored the next five points, giving the Eagles a 19-14 lead. The Wildcats scored its final point of the set trailing 23-17 and had two errors, one on a serve and one on a kill, to award Nixa its matching-winning points.

Set three provided a thriller and needed extra points for a winner. Both teams could not find a comfortable cushion and were exchanging points back and forth. A 3-point advantage was the most significant margin. The game was even at 10-10 early in the set. Following, Rogersville led by four twice, 18-14 and 22-18, and forced Nixa to use a timeout both times. The Eagles kept battling, though. Outside hitter Amelia White tied the game at 23-23, and the Wildcats scored next, with Nixa answering right back. Two kills from Bray and Owens eventually sealed the Eagles' 26-24 set win.

White was the Nixa's leader in kills, totaling nine with 18 digs defensively. Paige Pearcy contributed 16 digs to follow right behind White. Chloe Judd was a big presence at the net and blocked three Wildcat attempts.

Nixa (12-1) returns to the court for the Springfield Classic Tournament on Sept. 16, where the Eagles are slated to face Bentonville West (AR), Bryant (AR), Ft. Smith Southside (AR), and Glendale in pool play.
