10/30/2025 9:40:00 PM

The Nixa girls tennis team's memorable season concluded in the state tournament.

As a team, the Eagles bowed out in the quarterfinal round after falling to the Liberty Jays 5-0. The Jays eventually placed third in Class 3.

Nixa finished the 2025 campaign with a record of 15-2 and captured the Class 3 District 5 title, marking its third in five years. The Eagles were crowned the champions of the COC East, Nixa, and Republic tournaments. Its two blemishes came to Liberty and Fr. Tolten, who reached the Class 2 Final Four.

Seniors Emily Peterson and Paige Morris were the leaders of this year's team. The duo had a perfect regular season (24-0), topping the Class 3 District 5, Springfield, Nixa, and Republic Tournament fields. They advanced to the state tournament, where the doubles pairing dropped their only two matches of the season on the opening day in heartbreaking fashion. Peterson and Morris were able to win one set but exited in the tie-breaker set, 10-6 and 10-7. Their season ended in the consolation first round against St. Teresa's pairing, who eventually placed seventh in Class 3. They dropped the first set 6-2 and responded with a 6-3 victory, but ran out of steam in the tiebreaker.

Peterson and Morris capped off a decorated Nixa career with their second straight state appearances and were pivotal players for the Eagles during their tenure, helping the squad to a combined record of 27-4 in a two-year span.
