Girls volleyball final roundup, season recap

The girls volleyball team concluded a memorable year by catching fire it the later stages of the season, which ended with a run a run to the final four for the first time since 2020 and hoisted the Class 5 3rd Place trophy.

Starting October, the team ventured to Kansas for four games and competed in the highly talented St. Aquinas Round Robin Tournament. The Eagles six-game winning streak was halted with defeats to St. Thomas Aquinas, Kan., Blue Valley West, Kan., and Olathe West, Kan. Nixa found success sweeping Rock Bridge for the second time this season.

Nixa caught fire after that, picking up two sweeps against Glendale and Springfield Central. In the final regular-season tournament, the Eagles won all five games in the Ozark Grand Slam. They swept Greenwood, Ark., Eureka, Park Hill South, and Lutheran St. Charles, and defeated St. Francis Borgia 2-1.

In the regular season finale, Nixa traveled to Ozark and exited enemy territory with a thrilling five-set instant-classic victory, concluding the regular season at 24-9.

The Eagles blew past the first two rounds, sweeping Glendale and Republic, which set up an anticipated rematch against Ozark for the district title. Nixa was clicking on all cylinders and swept Ozark for the championship.

Next, the Eagles traveled to Blue Springs South for the first round of the MSHSAA Class 5 State Tournament. Nixa's momentum did not die down, as they coasted their way to another dominating sweep, which clinched its spot in the Final Four.

In the semifinals, Nixa matched up against the three-time defending state champions, the Lafayette (Wildwood) Lancers. In a hard-fought game, Lafayette came out victorious 3-1, sending the Eagles to the third-place match. There, Nixa ended its year on a high note, sweeping Incarnate Word and earning the bronze in Class 5 and capturing the program's fifth overall state trophy. The team finished with a 2025 record of 29-10.

Senior Taylor Wood was a true six-rotation player and one of Nixa's key players all year. She was a wrecking force on both sides of the ball and was awarded America's most prestigious and top honors – American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-American Honorable Mention Team.

Wood and fellow senior Gwen Kubik were named to the AVCA All-Region 6 (Iowa, Illinois, Missouri, and Wisconsin) Team, in addition to one of Missouri's top recognitions – Class 5 All-State selections. They were also All-Conference and All-District first team recipients. 

Mara Coulter also joined Wood and Kubik on the Class 5 All-State, All-Conference, and All-District teams. Addy Bybee tabbed first team All-Conference and All-District honors and Cora Kubik was selected to the second team for both. Peyton Creed received All-District honorable mention recognition.

  • Kimberlyn McCowan: Single Season Block Assists Per Game (0.35)
  • Allie Pearcy: Single Match Digs (42)
  • Peyton Creed: Single Match Aces (8)
