Nixa, the No. 2-ranked team in Class 6 and led by head coach John Perry, defeated Ozark 42-6, Joplin 42-28, Helias Catholic 45-28, and Pattonville en route to its championship berth.

Lee's Summit, led by head coach Todd Miller, captured the District 7 title by beating Lee's Summit North 35-33 and North Kansas City 24-14. The Tigers knocked off Liberty in the quarterfinals and Jackson 35-28 in the semifinals. Lee's Summit dropped its first four games of the year against Liberty (21-13), Blue Springs (28-7), Blue Springs South (31-7), and Liberty North (35-34).

This championship game marks only the second-ever contest between the two schools. Lee's Summit defeated Nixa 56-31 in the 2010 district quarterfinals.

Entering the title tilt, both teams are seeking the program's first-ever state championship. Nixa has an advantage over Lee's Summit on both sides of the ball. The Eagles average over two TDs more than the Tigers, as Nixa comes in at 45.9 points scored, including 410.3 yards of total offense. Lee's Summit averages 27.8 points with 363.5 yards of total offense. On the defensive side, Nixa has allowed 15.5 points to the Tigers' 22.2. Both teams thrive in the running game, but the Eagles have the edge.

Nixa is making back-to-back appearances in the state title, and it's third overall. The Eagles came up short a year ago against De Smet (35-20) and in 2014 against Battle (25-22). Since 2020, the Eagles have won three straight district titles, compiling a record of 63-10.

This will be Lee's Summit's first appearance since 1985 (second overall), when the Tigers finished second in Class 5 to Hazelwood Central. Since 2020, Lee's Summit has won one district, totaling a record of 31-34.

The 2025 MSHSAA Class 6 State Championship featuring Nixa and Lee's Summit will guarantee a new and first-time champion and marks the second time ever in MSHSAA history that a St. Louis area school will not be represented in the highest classification title game.
