The Nixa boys wrestling team competed in the 2025 Class 4 District 3 tournament at Ozark High School on Feb. 21-22.

16 teams took the mat, and the Eagles placed fourth overall as a team with 105 points, behind Willard (117), Ozark (186.5), and Neosho (267.5).

En route to the team's fourth-place finish, four wrestlers placed in the top four and qualified for the state tournament.

Top-seeded sophomore Reed Wilson, a 2024 state medalist, was Nixa's top performer and the lone wrestler to capture a district title. Wilson won by tech fall against his first three opponents: Smith-Cotton's Xadrian McGruder (3:35 18-2), Republic's Adam Dunlap (2:00 18-3), and Neosho's Hunter Butler (5:58 22-6). In a matchup vs. the No. 1 and No. 2 seeds, Wilson triumphed over Willard's Noah Rodgers by decision 4-1 to crown the 150 gold and second-straight state qualification. The match came down to the final period, as it was a dead-lock contest until Wilson scored an escape and takedown for four points to gain control. Rogers managed an escape with three seconds left.

Junior and second-seeded Owen Diemoz also competed in a title match but earned the silver in the 165-lbs division. Diemoz won by fall against Lebanon's Cameron Rose in the opening round, then tech fell (2:42 15-0) Smith-Cotton's Philip Chastain and won by major decision 10-1 over Carthage's Latrell Abbasi to secure his first state berth. He fell to the top-seeded Lincoln Howard of Neosho in the championship bout.

Sophomores Gavin McAtee and Jax Adams also placed in the top four in their respective weight classes to secure state tickets.

McAtee, the No. 3 seed, pinned his first opponent, fell in the semifinals, and responded back in the consolation semifinal with a win-by-fall over Lee's Summit West's Karsen Fetters to secure his right to state. Then, in the third-place match, took down Ozark's Grayson Clevenger by fall (4:47) to capture the 113 bronze.

Fourth-seeded 132-lbs Adams won his opening matches with a 15-1 major decision victory and pinned the next. He fell in the semifinals to the district's top seed and responded back in his bubble match with a 10-5 decision win over Kickapoo's Joseph Woodard to ensure Adams second straight state qualification. In the third-place bout, Adams faced the second seed from Lee's Summit, Luke Nally, and fell by a major decision.

Peyton Chainey (138), Kaden Young (157), Tyler Gibson (175), and Champ Porter (190) had strong district performances but fell in their bubble matches. They were one win away from a state berth.

Nixa's four state qualifiers will compete in the Class 4 state tournament from Feb. 28 - March 1 at Mizzou Arena.
