Lady Eagles spoil Republic's Senior Night

On what was supposed to be a memorable night for Republic, Nixa thwarted that from happening.

The Lady Eagles jumped on the board early, pounded out 15 hits and were held in scoreless in all but two innings, defeating Republic 8-5 and spoiling their senior night.

Nixa tacked on two runs in the first by loading the bases with clutch singles and walks, gaining an 2-0 lead.

The Lady Eagles added one run in the second and third, extending their lead to 4-1 heading into the bottom of the third.

Nixa received three runs in the top of the fifth and Maya Herman belted a solo home run in the sixth, adding an insurance run and pushing the Lady Eagles lead to 8-1.

With an 8-1 lead heading into the bottom of the sixth, Republic showed a little bit of life, scoring three runs and cutting the Nixa lead down to 8-4.

In the final inning, Republic tested Nixa all the way to the final out, loading the bases with the tying runner at the plate.

Pitcher Maddy Meierer picked up some defensive help, getting a Republic batter to fly out in foul territory to close out the game.

Nixa out hit Republic 15-8 in the victory.

The Lady Eagles finally received their long awaited victory over Republic, snapping an eleven-game losing streaking dating all the way back to 2011. 

Entering Tuesday night's contest, the last time Nixa defeated Republic was back in 2010 with an 11-1 victory.

Nixa improved to 8-11 and 3-4 in conference play and return to action on Thursday Oct. 3 traveling to Neosho.
