The Lady Eagles' volleyball team competed in the Ozark Grand Slam tournament over the weekend, finishing undefeated and crowned tournament champions.
Nixa was hungry for a tournament championship, avenging a second-place finish from a year ago.
The tournament was comprised of ten teams, including Nixa. The Lady Eagles were placed in the White Pool with Lafayette, Greenwood, Carl Junction and Eldon, defeating all four schools without surrendering a single match.
The Lady Eagles opened up pool play against Greenwood, winning straight-set victories 25-13 and 25-20.
From there, also in straight-set victories, Nixa defeated Eldon (25-13, 25-16), Carl Junction (25-11, 25-18) and Lafayette (25-14, 25-17).
The match against Lafayette was a high point for Nixa as they gave pay back to Lady Lancers who defeated them earlier in the season at the Blue Springs South Tournament 2-1 (26-24, 17-25, 21-25).
In semifinal action, Nixa met a familiar foe in Living Word Christian.
A year ago Living Word Christian and Nixa clashed in the championship during the same tournament. In the game, Living Word Christian had the edge, barely downing Nixa 2-1 (21-25, 25-23, 23-25).
The tables turned in 2019 for Nixa as they avenged that loss from a year ago. Nixa swept their way to victory 2-0 (25-11, 25-22), leading the Lady Eagles to the championship match.
Again, Nixa faced Lafayette but this time a tournament title was on the line, resulting in the same outcome. A Lady Eagles straight-set victory (25-16, 25-16), securing the 2019 Ozark Grand Slam Championship.
Kenzie Hines, Syden Golden, Lexie Gregory and Jaycee Fixson led the charge throughout the tournament for the Lady Eagles. Hines tallied 13 aces, Golden provided 117 assists, Gregory totaled 60 digs and Fixsen had 39 kills.
Taylor Golmen added seven blocks as well.
With the tournament championship, Nixa upped their winning streak to 13-games, improving to an impressive 27-4 on the year.
The Lady Eagles return to the court on Oct. 22 hosting Carl Junction.
