The Nixa volleyball team competed in the Blue Springs South Invitational Tournament on Oct. 5 and made history by winning the tournament championship for the first time in program history.
In a very tough field of 16 teams, the Lady Eagles prevailed on top, finishing the day 4-2.
Nixa was tested in the pool play as they were edged in three tough and exciting sets by Lafayette (Wildwood) (26-24, 17-25 and 21-25) and St. James Academy (26-24, 18-25 and 22-25).Â
In the final pool game, the Lady Eagles knocked off Blue Springs in two-straight sets (25-18 and 26-24), advancing them to bracket play.
The Lady Eagles portrayed a new life in championship bracket play, defeating Lee's Summit West in three-sets (20-25, 25-15 and 25-20), Park Hill South also in three-sets (25-21, 20-25 and 25-23), and swept their way to the tournament title downing St. Teresa's Academy (26-24 and 25-22).
Sydeny Golden led the way for the Lady Eagles, recording 179 assists and six aces.Â
Lexie Gregory tallied 109 digs on the day.
Kenzie Hines added six aces, Jaycee Fixsen had 55 kills and Lauren Weber added 10 blocks on the defensive side.
With the tournament championship, the Lady Eagles improved to 17-4 on the year and return to action on Oct. 7 for the annual Dig for a Cure Night against Branson. Â
