The Nixa Lady Eagles competed in the Kaylee Scholarship Association (KSA) basketball tournament in Orlando, Fla. Dec. 16-18, and placed second in the orange division.

Nixa opened the tournament against eventual champion Fremont from Nebraska. Fremont was ranked No. 3 in Nebraska before the tournament. Nixa rallied back and was trailing by as much as 20 in the second half. Second-half heroics from Macie Conway brought Nixa all the way back with a chance to tie it in the fourth quarter, but Fremont executed their free throws, while catching a break with a late technical foul from Nixa. Nixa did not have much time to think about the defeat, as they were right back in action the following morning against Kankakee, Ill.  Kankakee came into the game ranked No. 10 in Illinois' 3A basketball. This game was a lot different than the one before. Both teams executed very good defenses and neither team scored more than 40 throughout the whole game. Nixa would walk away with their first win in the tournament defeating Kankakee 40-30.

The Lady Eagles wrapped up the tournament with a dominating performance against Ocean Springs, Miss., where every player knocked down a bucket. The final score in that one was 62-29, as Nixa never let Ocean Springs get a foothold on the game and stayed in control all four quarters.

As a team, Nixa finished the tournament with an impressive field-goal shooting percentage of 55, while averaging 12 assists per game and grabbing 22 rebounds per game.

"It was a great team effort and display of great teammates. Overall it was a great trip and made tons of memories," head coach Jennifer Perryman said post tournament.

The Lady Eagles continue their season next week in the Pink and White tournament against Bolivar in the opening round as the White Division's No. 2 seed with a record of 5-1 and No. 4-ranked team in Class 6 averaging 61 PPG.
