Volleyball remains undefeated with wins vs. Helias, Jeff. City

Nixa volleyball hosted Helias Catholic and Jefferson City in a double-header tri-match on Sept. 1, defeating both visitors 3-1.

Nixa faced Helias in the first game and dropped the first set 25-21 but then responded convincingly in sets two and three, defeating the Crusaders in double digits 25-14 and 25-10. Nixa won the final set 25-18 to complete the first of two victories on the evening.

The Eagles totaled 52 kills in the game to the Crusaders 32 and outhit the visitors .250 to .168. Chloe Judd was the game's leader in kills with 15. Amelia White (11) and Ava Owens (10) also tallied double-figure kills.

Nixa had 15 aces, led by White's six, while Helias only had five.

Defensively, the Eagles tallied 74 digs to the Crusaders 57. Paige Pearcy (23), White (14), and Jacy Bray (11) all had double-digit digs. On the side, Bray was the game's leader with 44 assists.

Against Jefferson City, Nixa forced many Jays errors and used a strong defensive effort to defeat the visitors 25-18, 20-25, 25-22, 25-16, remaining undefeated on the year at 5-0.

The Eagles outhit the Jays .174 to .000, forcing 28 Jefferson City errors on the attack, and outdug the visitors 85 to 77.

Gwen Kubik was the game's leader in kills and the lone hitter to tally double-digit kills with 12. Ava Owens had nine kills and had a game-high four blocks.

Jacy Bray assisted on 33 Eagle points, hit two aces, and had 15 digs.

Defensively, Paige Pearcy led the charge with a game-high 23 digs. Taylor Wood (15) and Mayci Routh (11) also totaled double-digit digs.

Up next for Nixa is a showdown of undefeated teams, as Nixa hosts the 2022 Class 5 runners-up Kickapoo (10-0).
