The 2024 88th Annual Missouri State High School Activities Association's (MSHSAA) Boys Swimming and Diving Class 2 State Championships will be held on Nov. 14-15, at the
St. Peter's Rec-Plex in St. Peter's, Mo.
The swimming preliminary rounds are on Thursday, Nov. 14, and begins at noon.
The diving competition begins on Friday, Nov. 15, at 4:30 p.m.
The swimming finals are on Friday, Nov. 15, and are scheduled to start at 10 a.m.
According to MSHSAA's standards, the top 32 times in each event by individuals in the state qualify for the state meet. The top eight divers in each district (four districts total) advance to the state meet, compiling 32 total for the state competition.
Nixa qualified in all three relays, and senior Quinn Cates qualified individually in the 100-yard butterfly. Cates has competed in the state meet all three years of his career as part of Nixa's relay teams, but 2024 marks his first individual qualification.
Cates earned his state-qualification berth at the SWMO championships in early November. He placed fifth in the event with a time of 56.20, setting a season-best. His 56.29 ranks Cates 27th entering the state meet. The top time is 48.89.
Sophomore diver Keegan Sandgren qualified individually after placing third in the Class 2 District 4 meet. Sandgren finished the competition scoring 312.35 points. He ranks No. 16 entering the state meet. The top-ranked diver from Chaminade enters at 512.45.
Cates and Sandgren will also participate in all three relays. They will join senior Andrej Grezdo and sophomore Rylan Bell.
The 200-freestyle relay team earned its state berth at the SWMO championships. The team dropped over three seconds off of its previous mark and finished the prelims in eighth place with a time of 1:38.74. The time ranks the team No. 26 entering state. The top time of 1:26.38.
The 200-medley relay the a team-performance at the SWMO championships during the prelims by shedding over three seconds off their previous mark and finished sixth. Then, in the finals, the four bested that mark by over a second, finishing sixth with a time of 1:52.39 and ranking No. 28 in the state. The top mark is 1:34.56.
The 400-free relay had its season-best performance in dual vs. Lebanon and Rogersville on Oct. 4. The team clocked in at 3:50.85 to earn its state berth. The time ranks Nixa No. 32 entering the meet, with the top rank at 3:11.33.
