Four Nixa boys wrestlers will represent the Eagles at Mizzou Arena on Feb. 28 - March 1 at the 2025 95th Boys Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) Class 4 State Wrestling Championships.
Individually, after placing in the top four at the Class 4 District 3 tournament, Gavin McAtee, Jax Adams, Reed Wilson, and Owen Diemoz all qualified and will compete in the state tournament.
Wilson (150) won the district title, Diemoz (165) finished as the runner-up, McAtee placed third, and Adams fourth.
Recap the district tournament here.
2024 state medalist (5th) sophomore Reed Wilson is competing in his second straight state tournament on the bottom half of the bracket and enters as the No. 6-ranked wrestler in the state for the 150-lbs division with a record of 34-8. Wilson is set to face Troy's freshman Evan Kileen (23-9), who finished fourth in District 2, marking the first outing between the two.
During the regular season, Wilson faced three qualifiers on his bottom eight. He defeated Staley's No. 8-ranked Lester Brown (Dec. 6-4) and No. 10-ranked Christian Brothers College's Mason Todd (Dec. 10-7), but dropped a close matchup to No. 5-ranked Lafayette's Aidan Schoen (Dec. 1-0). Within the top eight, the he beat No. 7-ranked Noah Rogers (Dec. 4-1), but also dropped two matches to Rogers, and Kickapoo's Jahan Juynh (TF 19-4). He also fell to the second-ranked Chance Ruble, of Seckman, three times by decision.
If both were to win, Wilson would have an opportunity to avenge his loss to Schoen in the quarterfinals. He also has the No. 1-ranked Hickman's Jordan Fincher (41-2) on his side of the bracket.
Sophomore Jax Adams is also making his second consecutive outing after winning one match in 2024, entering this year's tournament with a record of 31-16. The 132-lbs Adams is slated to face the District 4 champion and No. 7-ranked freshman Quincey Crawford (31-7). The two will meet on the mat for the first time this season.
Adams competes on the bottom side of the bracket with three wrestlers who he surrendered to in the regular season, No. 4-ranked Grain Valley's Zachary Bleess, No. 5-ranked Neosho's Kelton Shaffer, and Rolla's Carson Mickem. No matter the outcome of the first-round matchups, Adams can avenge his defeat to Bleess or Mickem.
On the other side, Adams defeated Park Hill's Kennan Beatty (Dec. 12-7, Dec. 7-6), but fell to Ozark's Colton Wilson and Lee's Summit Luke Nally.
Two Eagles are debuting in their first state tournament sophomore Gavin McAtee and junior Owen Diemoz.
113-lbs McAtee enters the tournament with record 25-21 and faces the No. 7-ranked Seckman's sophomore Dorrian Clark (31-11), who was the runner-up in District 1 and qualified in 2024. The two meet in the regular season twice, with McAtee falling by decision in both outings. In the regular season, McAtee faced six qualifiers and defeated one Ozark's Grayson Clevenger (Fall 4:47).
165-lbs Diemoz comes in with a record of 32-14 and is slated to face Liberty's freshman Justice Williams (27-10), who was the third in District 4. The two split both contests during their regular season outings. Diemoz won the first match by decision 3-2 and medically forfeited in the second.
He also faced seven other qualifiers, besting Ray-Pec's Jaccob Wood (Fall 3:24) and Republic's Kameron Sutton (TF 17-1). Defending state champ and No. 1 Hickman's sophomore Luke Hayden is a potential quarterfinal match if both were to win opening-round bouts.
