2026 state swim recap: Relays swim to top-30 finishes

The Nixa girls swimming and diving team concluded its 2025-26 season by competing in the 2026 MSHSAA Class 2 State Championships meet on Feb. 20-21 at the St. Peter's Rec-Plex in St. Peter's, Mo.

Nixa qualified in all three relay events.

The top 32 swimmers in Missouri in their respective events jumped in the waters for the preliminary rounds on Feb. 20, and then 16 swimmers capped off the finals on Feb. 21.

In the preliminary competition, Nixa swam season-best times and set new personal records, but could not advance to the final rounds.

Each team finished top 30 in the state.

The 200-free relay entered with a time of 1:51.45, surpassed that mark, and had Nixa's best finish. The team of Hannah, McKinney, Bethany Spencer, Alyvia Gordon, and Lucy Hronek placed 29th overall, setting a new team record of 1:51.39 and beating Blue Springs, Carthage, and Kirkwood. Hronek, who anchored the relay, swam the fastest leg of 26.85, and McKinney began the relay and was the next fastest time of 27.54. Spencer and Gordon were the middle legs with times of 28.66 and 28.34, respectively. 

The 400-free relay team of Spencer, McKinney, Gordon, and Hronek set a new personal best time by dropping nearly four seconds and placed 30th. Spencer kicked off the first leg with a time of 1:02.45 with 30.02 and 32.43 splits. McKinney swam next, clocking in at 28.95 and 32.20 (1:01.15). Gordon followed with times of 29.68 and 33.78 (1:03.46). Hronek anchored the relay with the fastest time of 59.48, a 50 split of 28.40 and 31.08, leading the team to a final time of 4:06.54 and besting Carthage and Kickapoo. The team finished in 4:10.53.

The final relay was the 200 medley, which placed 30th, clocking in at 2:06.43. Hronek opened the relay in the 50 backstroke with a time of 30.89, McKinney was next in the 50 breaststroke at 36.78, Gordon swam the fly and finished at 30.23, and Spencer anchored in the 50 free, finishing at 28.53 to complete the team's 2:06.43. Nixa placed ahead of Jackson and Republic.
