2026 Class 6 District 5 girls basketball tournament bracket, information

The 2025 Class 6 District 5 girls basketball tournament bracket and seeds have been released.

The district features Branson, Glendale, Kickapoo, Neosho, Nixa, Ozark, Republic, and Waynesville.

Republic is the tournament host, and all games will be played at Republic High School. The opening round is scheduled for March 2, the semifinals on March 4, and the championship on March 6.

Nixa finishes the regular season with a 16-9 record, concluding 9-3 in conference (east and west) play, earning the No. 3 seed in the tournament.

Nixa will face Glendale in the opening round on Monday, March 2, at 8:30 p.m.

The two teams met earlier in the regular season, and Nixa earned a double-digit comeback victory, 54-51. Nixa holds an all-time record of 11-4 vs. Glendale, dating back to 2009, according to the MSHSAA record books. The Eagles currently hold a six-game winning streak, with five of those victories coming by double digits. The last defeat came in 2015 (51-34).

Other first-round matchups feature No. 1 Kickapoo (25-1) vs. No. 8 Neosho (3-22) at 4 p.m., No. 4 Ozark (12-13) vs. No. 5 Branson (15-11) at 5:30 p.m., and No. 2 Republic (22-4) vs. No. 7 Waynesville (10-16) at 7 p.m.

In the regular season, Nixa defeated Ozark (58-55) and Waynesville (60-32). Nixa lost to Kickapoo (63-61), Republic (60-43). The Eagles did not play Neosho and Branson.

Coming into the tournament, Kickapoo is ranked by the MBCA at No. 2 after finishing the regular season undefeated. Republic is the second-hottest team, ranked No. 10. The Tigers have won 13 of 14, with their only defeat coming to Kickapoo on Feb. 16 (44-37).

Quarterfinal:

Nixa advanced to the semifinals with a 54-29 victory over Glendale. 

The Eagles were dominant on the defensive side of the ball. They entered the second quarter with a 16-8 lead and only allowed one point, giving Nixa a 29-9 advantage. The girls never looked back, leading to a double-digit win.

Jordan Phillips was the leading scorer, as the junior guard finished with 16 points. Freshman guard Khloe Schlenker (14) also tallied double figures, while four additional Eagles found baskets.

Nixa faces No. 2 Republic (23-4) on Wednesday, March 4, at 7:30 p.m. for a berth in the district title game vs. the winner of No. 1 Kickapoo and No. 4 Ozark.

Semifinal:

Nixa secured another berth to the district title game for the second year in a row with a 52-41 victory over Republic.

The Eagles jumped to an 18-5 lead after the first quarter, and their defense tried to hold the lead for the rest of the game. Nixa was clutch at the line, finishing 17-of-21 on free throws to help hold their lead late in the game. 

Senior forward Taylor Wood (20) led the offensive scoring, while Jordan Phillips (13) also finished in double figures.

Friday (March 6) district championship tilt will feature a rematch of last year's championship, No. 1 Kickapoo (27-1) vs. No. 3 Nixa (18-9).

Championship:

In a tough defensive battle, Nixa fell to Kickapoo in the championship game 45-36. 

Kickapoo led 24-12 after the first half, but for the remainder, Nixa outscored the Chiefs in the second half, but would fall short.

Gwen Kubik led Nixa's offense, scoring half of the Eagles' points with 18. Nixa finishes their season with an 18-10 record, finishing runner-up in Class 6 District 5.
