A second-half rally by the Nixa Eagles, after self-inflicted wounds in the first half, fell short in a 47-42 loss to Rogers, Arkansas, Dec. 9 in the Stephanie Phillips Classic, at Kickapoo.
"There are a lot of positives because we fought back," Nixa coach Jennifer Perryman said. "But we also put ourselves in that position — which could also be a positive thing because it's something we can fix."
It was a tight game in the opening minutes, but a one-point lead by Rogers ballooned into a 19-12 lead at the end of the first quarter after a driving basket by Kelsey Richmond and back-to-back 3-pointers by Madison Sandor — all in the final 48 seconds of the period.
"We talked about uncontested 3s and that was a point we made in practice," Perryman said. "Then we gave up three in the first quarter."
