2024 girls swim state recap, 200, 400 relays top 25 finish

The Nixa girls swimming and diving team concluded its 2023-24 season by competing in the 2024 MSHSAA Class 2 State Championships meet on Feb. 16-17 at the St. Peter's Rec-Plex in St. Peter's, Mo.

Nixa qualified in all three relay events. 

The top 32 swimmers in Missouri in their respective events jumped in the waters for the preliminary rounds on Feb. 16, and then 16 capped off the finals on Feb. 17.

In the preliminary competition, Nixa swam to a strong performance and set new personal-best times but could not reach the final rounds. 

The 400-freestyle relay was Nixa's top performance. The team of sophomore Lucy Hronek, senior Kaitlyn Witts, senior Sophie Anderson, and freshman Kylie Avens placed 24th overall and nearly dropped three seconds off of their entry time of 4:01.81. 

Hronek swam the opening leg with splits of 28.18 and 32.37, Witts and Anderson were next in the middle legs with times of 28.92, 32.23 and 27.51, 31.27, and anchoring the relay was Avens, who clocked in at 28.02 and 30.53 for a final time of 3:59.03. The four defeated Ft. Zumwalt West, Carthage, Pattonville, Lee's Summit North, Blue Springs, Oakville, Jackson, and Kickapoo.

The 200-freestyle relay team of senior Lucy Mills, Avens, Anderson, and Hronek placed 25th overall and dropped over a second off their entry time. 

Avens kicked off the event in the first leg with a 26.98 time, Mills was next and clocked in at 27.97, Anderson followed at 26.99, and Hronek anchored the relay with the team's fastest time of 26.78, rounding out the team's final time of 1:48.72. The four's time bested Oak Park, Liberty (Wentzville), Park Hill, Rock Bridge, Francis Howell, Carthage, and Lee's Summit

The 200-medley relay team received a disqualification and placed 32nd overall.
