The defending Class 2 state champs hosted their annual Nixa Girls Invitational Tournament on Dec. 13 and captured the title in a field of 19 total teams.

The tournament was held in Nixa's new indoor facility, which was just opened in August, the Apex Activity Center. Teams from across Missouri participated in the invitational, but Nixa on top.

The Eagles scored 250.5 points, which defeated the runner-up Eureka by over 50 points. Eureka tallied 193.5, Staley 185.5, Waynesville 147, and Lebanon 134.5 to finish in the top five behind Nixa.

Capturing the gold medals in their respective divisions were Ashton Mayes (110 lbs), Addison Harkins (130 lbs), Kamryn Bourbon (145 lbs), and Natalie Edmission (155 lbs). All but Edmission were the top seeds in the weight classes.

Mayes went 3-0 with three wins by fall (WBF), including a technical fall (21-6, 5:10) in her title bout. Harkins had three WBF in the first period leading up to her first-place match. She won the 130 title with a 13-5 major decision. En route to her top finish, she achieved career win No. 150. Bourbon eased her way to the 145 tile, as she pinned all of her opponents in the first period. Edmission, the No. 2 seed, had four WBF, including upsetting the No. 1 seed from Cassville with a first-period pin and a 3-0 lead to capture the 155 title.

Elaina Goodnight (100), Hanna Egley (105), and Avery Muniz (190) were runners-up in their respective weight classes and won at least two matches before falling in their title matches.

Brylee James finished fourth at 140, going 2-3, and achieved career win No. 100 in her consolation semifinal victory.

The tournament title marks the third of the season for the Eagles in the early stages. The team won the Festus and McDonald County tournaments prior to winning Nixa. The Eagles hit the mat again on Dec. 18-19 for the highly competitive and well-respected Kansas City Stampede.
