Eight Nixa girls wrestlers will be headed to Mizzou Arena in Columbia, Mo., on Feb. 27-28 to compete in the 2026 8th Girls Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) Class 2 State Wrestling Championships.

The defending state champs enter as Missouri Wrestling's No. 1-state-ranked team and USA Wrestling's No. 14-nationally-ranked team in the latest February rankings, with expectations to repeat again and hoist the title. The Eagles trophy case is ever-growing, and has four team trophies since the inaugural season of MSHSAA Girls Wrestling in 2018-19, placing second in 2022 and 2024, fourth in 2023, and first in 2025.

Ft. Osage (2nd), Willard (3rd), Troy (4th), and Liberty (5th) are the top-five ranked teams behind Nixa.

The Eagles scored 206.5 points to capture a three-peat of district titles, besting Willard's 154.

After placing in the top four at the MSHSAA Class 2 District 3 Tournament, Elaina Goodnight, Hanna Egley, Ashton Mayes, Addison Harkins, Brylee James, Kamryn Bourbon, Natalie Edmission, and Avery Muniz qualified for the state tournament and will represent the Nixa on the grand stage in Columbia.

Mayes (110), Bourbon (145), and Harkins (130) captured district titles in their respective weight classes, while Goodnight (100), James (135), and Muniz (190) finished as the runner-up. Egley (105) and Edmission (155) won the bronze. Recap the district tournament here.

Freshman Elaina Goodnight enters her first state tournament with a record of 36-11. Goodnight faces Fox's sophomore Shaylynn Mills (36-10) in the opening round of the bottom eight of the 16-man bracket, who placed third in District 1. This marks the second matchup between the two, as Goodnight defeated Mills by technical fall (TF) 15-0 1:58 at the Lafayette 'Fred Ross' Invitational.

Goodnight defeated three additional opponents within her 100 bracket – Rolla's Kiara Sederburg (Fall 3:37), Republic's Rachel Clark (Fall 1:31, Fall 2:02), and Seckman's Skylar Bain (Fall 1:43, Fall :59) – while also dropping to three during the regular season. 2x state champion Liberty's Lilly Breeden is in the bottom eight of the bracket as well, which Goodnight could see in the semifinals.

Junior Hanna Egley is making back-to-back appearances in the state tournament, capturing fourth place in 2025. Egley enters with a 29-12 record as the No. 6-ranked wrestler in her class. She faces Staley's junior Natalie Nammavaly (36-16). The two faced off during the regular season with Nammavaly winning by fall.

Egley defeated three opponents – Seckman's Heidi McArthur (Fall 2:45), Timberland's Alysaa Dietiker (MD 11-1), and Carthage's Hadley White (Dec. 7-0, Dec. 6-2) – inside her 105 bracket, while also falling to four during the regular season. A potential rematch with McArthur could play out if both were to either win or lose, with both being in the top eight of the bracket. The 105-lbs division runs through 2x defending champion senior Sandy Breeden, who is in the bottom half of the bracket.

Junior and 2x-state medalist, Ashton Mayes, seeks to capture her third consecutive state medal, finishing sixth in 2024 and fourth in 2025. The matchup marks the first time the two will grapple.

Within the 110 bracket, there will be a new state champ, and Mayes faced six opponents during the regular season, defeating four and dropping two. She was victorious over North Point's Olivia Donley (Fall :25), Northwest's Brooklyn Robinson (TF 19-4 5:00, Fall 3:07), Staley's A'Shay White (SV-1 16-9), and Parkway South's Jazmin Campbell (Fall 1:12), while falling to Eureka's Kirra Dunscombe (Fall 3:48) Jackson's Kayleigh Milam (Fall :59). The senior and top-ranked grappler in the 130-lbs division enters her final state tournament with a record of 40-3. She is slated to face the fourth-place winner of District 2, Francis Howell North's senior Jillian Hoelting (14-13). This matchup marks the first between the two.

Her other two losses came against Francis Howell's Anna Bowles in the 135-lbs division and Broken Arrow's, Okla. Kyah Leyba. Sparkman and Beck are both on the bottom half of the bracket with Harkins, and a potential rematch between Harkins and Beck can play out in round two. Puryear and Harkins could meet for the title if both were to win out.

Senior Brylee James is appearing in her third consecutive state tournament with a record of 36-10, seeking to capture the first state medal in her final go-around. During the regular season, James defeated two state qualifiers in her bracket – Republic's Gabby Shanks (Fall 1:24, Fall 1:30) and Liberty's Heaven Patton (Fall 2:39) – but fell to Waynesville's Addison Brown three times.
