The Nixa girls wrestling team competed in one of the nation's top ten high school tournaments, the Kansas City Stampede, on Dec. 18-19 at the Hale Arena.

Over 60 teams from 11 states hit the mat in a 64-man bracket, but it was the Eagles who prevailed at the top of the entire field, capturing the team title with 189 points and beating runner-up Garden City, Kan., by four points.

Addison Harkins (130 lbs) and Kamryn Bourbon (145 lbs) helped propel Nixa to the title, finishing first in their respective weight classes.

Harkins, the No. 3 seed, finished 6-0 and upset the No. 2 seed, Anna Bowles of Francis Howell, 4-2 in the semifinals and dominated the top seed, Dru Turner of Hinton, Okla., with a major decision 16-6 victory to win the 130 title. Prior to her semis and championship bout, Harkins pinned her first three opponents in under a minute and won 9-0 in the quarterfinals.

Bourbon, the second seed, also went 6-0. She had four wins by fall (WBF), including a semifinal first-round pin over Carthage's Irish Lee. In the finals, Bourbon defeated the top seed, Ashley Thompson of Rogers, Ark., with a major decision of 14-5.

Avery Muniz (190), Natalie Edmission (155), and Hanna Egley (105) had strong performances and secured top-eight finishes in the respective weight classes.

Muniz, the 16th seed, placed fourth with a record 7-2. Edmission, the 12th seed, went 6-2 and finished fifth. Seventh-seeded, Egley, placed eighth, going 4-3.

The tournament title marks the fourth of the season for the Eagles. The team won the Festus, McDonald County, and Nixa tournaments prior to winning the KC Stampede. Nixa takes the mat next on Dec. 29-30 for the Columbia Wonder Woman Tournament.
