2/17/2026 10:14:00 AM

The 2025 Missouri Class 2 State reigning champions and nationally-ranked Nixa girls wrestling team concluded its 2025-26 regular season by capturing its third consecutive district title and qualified eight for the state meet.

USA Wrestling's No. 14 team in the nation claimed its sixth title of the 2025-26 campaign with the Class 2 District 3 title. Festus, McDonald County, Nixa, Kansas City Stampede, Columbia Hickman, and Central Ozark Conference (COC) tournaments. The COC title imprinted Nixa atop the conference for a remarkable fifth straight year. The Eagles were also runners-up at the highly touted Columbia Wonder Woman Tournament.

In dual competitions, the Eagles had one blemish against nationally ranked Bixby, Okla. The No. 4 Bixby Spartans defeated Nixa in a highly competitive match, winning six matches but falling 48-34. Nixa went undefeated against Missouri opponents and ousted the likes of North Point (78-0), Francis Howell (46-24), Seckman (59-24), Rolla (57-24), and Ozark (66-18).

The Eagles successfully completed their three-peat on Feb. 13-14 at Ozark High School. Nixa topped 22 additional teams with 206.5 points, besting runner-up Willard's 154.

Eight wrestlers placed in the top four, including three district champions, and qualified for the state championships.

No. 1 seed's junior Ashton Mayes and Kamryn Bourbon (145) and No. 2 seed Addison Harkins (130) were atop the podium with the gold in their respective weight classes.

Mayes, a two-time state medalist, pinned all of her opponents leading up to her championship bout. In the title match, she was awarded the victory due to a medical-forfeit injury against Belton's Africa Fabian. Kicking off the district tournament, the sixth-place medalist pinned Waynesville's Isablla James and Rolla's Hailey Lux in the first period to advance to the semis. With an 8-0 lead early in the second period, Mayes pinned Republic's Bre-Elle Gutierrez at 2:33 and secured her third-straight appearance to the state tournament.

Bourbon, a 2025 fourth-place state-medalist, coasted her way to a second-straight district title and berth to state. The sophomore phenom pinned the first three opponents, including her opening two in under a minute, defeating Sedalia Smith-Cotton's Aliva Washington at :36, Parkview's Adrienne Webb at :53, and Ozark's Riley Ridinger at 2:33, securing the state ticket. The championship bout presented a bit more challenge for Bourbon. The No. 2 seed, Belton's Aryana Roberts, quickly jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first, but that would be Roberts final points. Bourbon made the proper adjustments and scored 15 unanswered points, with two reversals and nearfalls each and a takedown, for the 15-7 victory and 145-pound title.

Harkins, a 3x state medalist and 2025 champion, received a first-round bye and went on to pin her next two opponents, setting up a marquee final. The 2x defending district champ pinned Lebanon's Kaylee Herd with a 12-3 lead in the first period at 1:05 and Waynesville's Destany Oster in the second period with an 11-3 lead at 4:59.

The 130 final featured No. 1 seed Willard's Scout Puryear and Harkins. The two clashed for the COC title two weeks prior, and Puryear defeated Harkins by decision 16-10. This go-around, Harkins got her revenge in epic fashion. After two scoreless periods, Puryear scored three points with a three-count near fall in the first 30 seconds of the third. The last minute was controlled by Harkins. She trimmed the deficit to 3-1 with an escape and, in the final seconds, took down Puryear to complete the comeback, 4-3.

Freshman Elaina Goodnight (100) and seniors Brylee James (135) and Avery Muniz (190) all finished as the runners-up, punching their tickets to state.

For Goodnight and Muniz, it marks their first state qualification.

Goodnight, the No. 3 seed, defeated Ozark's Kierra Kerns with a first-period pin and upset No. 3 seed Lebanon's Lacey Malonson in the semifinals by technical fall (4:38), 15-0, which secured her first bid to state. She fell in the 100 title match to Willard's Chloe Kirksey, the No. 4 seed.

Muniz, the No. 2 seed, made quick work of her first three opponents, pinning each in the first, including her quarterfinal and semifinal opponent in under 30 seconds. She defeated Ray-Pec's in the quarterfinals at :26, Ozark's Alexis Decker at 1:24, and Rolla's Bailie Morris at :22.

The 190 championship featured a familiar foe for Muniz, No. 1 seed Willard's Harmony Moore. Moore defeated Muniz two weeks prior for the COC title. A similar outcome told the tale for the district title. In a thrilling match, Muniz jumped ahead 3-0 with a takedown, but Moore responded with four points of her own, and led 4-3 after one. The second period was scoreless, and Moore upped her lead to 5-3 with an escape. Muniz responded and regained the lead, 6-5, with a takedown, but in the final minute, Moore eventually pinned Muniz to win the match.

James, the No. 2 seed, qualified for her third-straight state tournament, as she defeated her opening three opponents with first-period pins. The 3x qualifier pinned Kickapoo's Arianna Harris in the first round at :47, Camdenton's Kylie Preble in the quarterfinals at 1:22, and Republic's Gabby Shanks in the semifinals at 1:30. She fell to the top seed Waynesville's Addison Brown in the third period by pin, finishing as the 135 runner-up.

Juniors Hanna Egley (100) and Natalie Edmission (155) all placed third to secure their state tickets. Egley qualified for her second straight tournament and Edmission marks her first.

Nixa's eight state qualifiers will compete in the Class 2 state tournament from Feb. 27-28 at Mizzou Arena, seeking to complete its title defense and add to its ever-growing trophy case. The program captured the first state title last season after earning three consecutive state trophies: 2024 2nd, 2023 4th, and 2022 2nd.
