2026 state soccer information, Eagles set for showdown with Columbia Rock Bridge on May 30

The Nixa girls soccer team successfully completed the three-peat defense of its Class 4 District 5 title with a 1-0 victory over its cross-town rival Ozark.

En route to the title, Nixa held all of its foes to a goose egg on the scoreboard, shutting out Branson (8-0), Kickapoo (4-0), and Ozark (1-0). 

The win advances Nixa to the Class 4 state quarterfinals for the third consecutive year against the Columbia Rock Bridge Bruins. The Eagles, winners of seven straight, enter with a record of 21-3 and have held the last six of their seven opponents scoreless. The last goal scored on the Eagles was against Rock Bridge on the Eagles turf in the regular-season finale, where the Bruins took a quick 1-0 lead, but Nixa scored three unanswered to take the Columbia squad down 3-1.

This matchup marks only the second time the teams have met in the postseason, with the last contest in the Class 3 state quarterfinals in 2010, when Rock Bridge won 1-0 in overtime and placed fourth in the state.

Nixa has triumphed over the Bruins in the last two regular-season matchups (3-1 and 5-0) and owns an all-time record of 8-4.

The Class 4 quarterfinal No. 3 between Nixa and Rock Bridge will be played at Rock Bridge High School (4303 S Providence Rd #7198, Columbia, MO 65203).

Kickoff is set for 5 p.m.

Rock Bridge (16-4), the No. 20-ranked team in Class 4 and No. 2 seed in District 6, defeated Fort Osage in overtime 3-2 in the quarterfinals, Blue Springs 1-0 in the semifinals, and upset the top-seeded 3x defending champion and No. 5-ranked team in Class 4, Blue Springs South, in penalty kicks 1-0.

Entering the quarterfinal contest, Nixa has the advantage on both sides of the ball. The Eagles average 4.2 goals per game, while Rock Bridge averages 3.3. Nixa's highest single-game goal total was eight, and they achieved that seven times. The Bruins highest was nine and two eight-goal outings. On the defensive side, Nixa has allowed less than a goal a game (0.7) with 17 shutouts. Rock Bridge allows over a goal a game (1.3) with nine shutouts.

Each team is led by its all-state returnees. 

Nixa, the No. 11-ranked Class 4 team, is anchored by its 2024 and 2025 first-team all-state forward and D1-bound Shaelee Franck. Franck has signed with Northern Iowa and is the program's all-time leading goal scorer and points leader. Franck has surpassed 125 career goals and has tallied a goal against the Bruins in all three games during her tenure. Sidelined by injury this season, teammate and midfielder Sam McClain was also a 2x all-state selection her sophomore and junior year with Franck. McClain signed with Drury University.

Rock Bridge is headlined by its 2025 second-team all-state selection and Truman State University-bound forward Liz Peng. 

In the last six seasons (2021-2026), Nixa has reached the state tournament four times, falling to Lee's Summit West in the 2021 sectional round and Blue Springs South in the 2024 quarterfinals. Nixa is seeking back-to-back final four appearances and the program's third overall. The Eagles placed fourth in 2025, falling to eventual champion Cor Jesu Academy in the semifinals and Lee's Summit West in the third-place game. In 2013, they also placed fourth in Class 3.

Dating back to 2008 in the MSHSAA record books, Nixa has claimed 11 district titles, including a stint of six straight from 2013-2018. The Eagles have also had five 20-plus-win seasons, three of which came during the 2024-2026 seasons with its current decorated senior class. 2013 marked its highest total (23-5).

Rock Bridge reaches the state tournament round for the third time in six seasons. The Bruins placed fourth in 2022, falling to Nernix Hall and Liberty North. In 2021, they fell in the sectional round to Kickapoo.

The Bruins have won nine district titles since 2008, including a four-year streak from 2009-2012. They have achieved one 20-win season (2022). 

Other quarterfinal matchups include Cor Jesu Academy (22-0, No. 1-nationally ranked, and 2x defending state champs) vs. St. Joseph's Academy (17-3-1 and 2025 Class 3 state champs), St. Dominic (15-6) vs. Parkway West (19-7), and St. Teresa's Academy (9-6-1) vs. Staley (12-10). The winner of Nixa and Rock Bridge would face the winner of St. Teresa's Academy in St. Louis on June 5.

During the regular season, the Eagles only faced Cor Jesu, falling to the Chargers 6-1.
