After finishing fourth a year ago, the Eagles seek to have its best performance at the state tournament in program history, finishing fourth each time (2013 and 2025). This trip marks the third overall.
Nixa, the No. 11-ranked team in Class 4, enters the semifinal matchup on an eight-game winning streak with a record of 22-3. The trio of defeats came against St. Louis schools, two of which are competing in the Final Four in their respective classes, Class 3 Rockwood Summit (2-1) and the two-time defending state champs and No. 1-nationally ranked Class 4 Cor Jesu Academy (6-1). Francis Howell Central was the last team to get Nixa's upper hand (3-0) which was over a month ago.
STA, the No. 21-ranked team in Class 4, knocked off Staley 2-1 in its quarterfinal to earn its first Final Four berth since 2021. The Stars finished third that year in Class 4, falling to Nernix Hall (3-1) and besting Lee's Summit West in penalty kicks in the third place game. The Stars enter Friday's semifinal matchup on a four-game winning streak with a record of 10-6-1. Their six losses came against Blue Valley Northwest, Kan., Lee's Summit North, Blue Valley North, Kan. Notre Dame de Sion, St. Michael the Archangel, and St. Pius X (Kansas City). They tied 1-1 against St. Louis powerhouse St. Joseph's Academy.
Nixa and STA have four common foes this season – Carthage, Lee's Summit West, Liberty, and Rock Bridge – all of which both squads defeated. The Stars own an all-time record over the Eagles of 3-1, winning matchups in 2022 (3-0), 2021 (2-0), and 2018 (2-1). Nixa was victorious in 2017 (2-0).
A season ago Nixa drew a tough semifinal matchup and fell to eventual state champion Cor Jesu (7-0) and Lee's Summit West (2-1) in the third place game.
For the Stars, they are no strangers to the final weekend, as 2026 marks the program's 20th overall, with 2021 being the most recent. STA has claimed the championship six times in program history, winning back-to-back Class 4 titles in 2015 and 2016. Their four other titles were also two-consecutive trophies in 2006, 2005, 2003, 2002. They were runners-up in 2014 and 2013 and 1999 and 1998.
Nixa is anchored by its senior class and two-time all-staters, seniors forward Shaelee Franck (1st), and midfielder Sam McClain (2nd). DI-bound Franck, the program's all-time leading goal (125+) and points scorer, signed with Northern Iowa. McClain, who recently saw her first action in the quarterfinal game after being sidelined with a torn ACL, signed with DII Drury University. Senior all-position Jade Johnson signed with DII Southwest Baptist. The three are part of an eight-player crew who has either been starting or reserves since their freshman year.
On the other side, STA is anchored by its two all-staters and DI signees. Senior defender Aubrey Coppinger (1st) signed with Abilene Christian University and fellow senior midfielder Olivia Orosco (HM) signed with the University Missouri Kansas City.
Entering the semifinal contest, Nixa has the advantage on both sides of the ball. The Eagles average 4.1 goals per game, while Rock Bridge averages 2.6. Nixa's highest single-game goal total was eight, and they achieved that seven times. The Bruins highest was 10 and two eight-goal outings. On the defensive side, Nixa has allowed less than a goal a game (0.6) with 18 shutouts. STA allows over a goal a game (1.5) with five shutouts.
The other semifinal matchup is Parkway West (20-7) vs. Cor Jesu Academy (23-0). The winners of each contest play for the title at 7 p.m. on June 6, while the losers play for third place at 5 p.m. on June 6. Nixa only faced Cor Jesu and fell to the Chargers in the regular season.
