Nixa Blanks Willard for Eighth Straight Win

Jeff Kessinger, for Headliner Sports

Nixa High School's girls soccer team isn't just heating up as the district tournament nears. The Eagles are sizzling.

A 10-0 win over Willard May 3 extended Nixa's winning streak to eight in a row and improved the Eagles' record to 11-5-1 on the season, 6-0 in Central Ozark Conference play.

"We wanted to put pressure on them and the girls did a fantastic job winning balls, going to goal and getting good shots," Nixa coach Evan Palmer said. "Early on we were kind of settling for shots from the outside. We were open because they were falling back in the box. We told the girls we've got to look for some combination play between the forwards and the midfielders. Once we started doing that, it was a lot of un to watch. Wow."

Nixa poured in six first-half goals, as the outcome of the game was never really in doubt. The game-ending goal was a beauty, with Erica Hartley beating her defender to the byline, then sending a pinpoint cross to Erin Crawford, who knocked home the 10th goal of the night.
